Well, it's not that the airbag is used for decoration, but rather, it's made in a way can be carried, so people can wear one while biking! (check the link to see how it works)
As you can see in the video, when it's hidden, it may fit into one's overcoat, and when activated by vibration (due to the impact of a car for e.g.), the airbag expands and wrap around the entire head.
If it had any user, I would say that they wear it mainly to show-off. It seems so cool when under some condition, "puff!", an white helmet appear out of nowhere. However, I can't deny it should function well, as airbag is widely used in auto-vehicles.
If I become an enthusiast of this product, I could see myself designing similar device like airbag kneepad... For user's need for better protection, or, better show-off.
This is really a fresh and fascinating design. People now can be protected not only in automobiles but also at anywhere else. And it looks cool outside as well. Therefore this is a product which is both functional and ornamental. However, in your post, it seems you didn't cover the problems of this device. For example, maybe this product can be too sensitive and "puff" as the moment when it is not needed, let's suppose, when you are eating. In addition, I like your further design of this idea. You expand the range of it and maybe in the future people will rely on the different airbag you designed!

For the concern of safety, it is a must for us to wear a helmet while riding a bike. Actually, only fewer riders follow the rules and most of these followers are professional riders. This design you mentioned will solve this safety problem very well. As the airbag possesses both decoration and safety properties, wearing this kind of helmet, or I can say wearing this fascinating design, catering to many people's necessity.
ReplyDeleteFor your deeper design, the kneepad, is a great extension to the helmet. I think knee is the most important part. Make your kneepad as light, as comfortable as possible.
absolute great design, when i was riding a bike , i sometimes got nervous because accidents might come unexpectly, if i have this , it could really save my life on the road. however, when thinking about the implement of this creation , more about financail aspect, will people really pay money to wear this in daily life. would it be a burden to carry something like this everyday? so designers must think about the possibility of really take it into life.
