solving a problem using toulmin's argument

Claim: I should not worry about the fact that I worry about my future all the time.
Grounds: My psychology teacher told me that the age around 18-20 see a lot of life change, thus is most likely to have stress, and thereafter, worries.
Warrant: I'm no different than other young adults.
Backing: I go to college, I have normal emotion, etc, everything proves that I'm a normal person.
Qualifier: For most of the time, my worries are the worries that my peer are having, so it make sense that I worry!

  1. Hi Muyun,

Though seems short, this post is terse and forceful! You demonstrated an accurate and clear understanding of toulmin's argument by this article.

Just like you, sometimes I would worry about my future, for instance, even I am majoring in ECE now, I can not be 100 percent sure that I will take it as my career in the future. This is a extremely normal behavior because of the uncertainty of future. On the other hand, you made a strong prove of your claim by illustrate what your psychology teacher told you, which is people aged from 18-20 are more likely to worry since in these years they would change dramatically with will contribute a lot and dedicate the overall graph of their entire life. In addition, your warrent chains the claim and grounds together and your backing back up the warrant by stating you are no different than others so that your claim become more powerful.

    Nice work!

    Best regards,

  2. Actually, your short paragraph shows all elements of toulmin's model.
It is a very common phenomenon for our students to worry about our own future. We are all engineering students, what we are learning is not only how to solve the math, physical and chemistry problems, but also some efficient methods when tackling unexpected difficulties. Our college education will provide us adequate space and sufficient opportunities to improve our capabilities. Your universal worry is truly existed among all adolescents who has not made a clear plan for his/her future.
What we need to do is focusing on our major study and enrich our experiences. Believing that we will achieve our own success one day!
